DIRECTOR’S NOTE Hamlet is one of Shakespeare's most challenging works for the director and actor. The mercurial Hamlet defies definition as he leaps from melancholy to madness , feigned and real, to wonderful moments of theatrical wit all traveling inexorably towards the final showdown. Hamlet is a too human tale of love, loss, passion and redemption. We mourn the loss of lost opportunity for love and happiness and that is where much of the heart of this tragedy lies. The cast and crew of this Hamlet are passionate about story telling without gimmicks, finding truth through the exploration of text and we hope today's performance will give you much to ponder on. PROGRAMME: to download click HA12 Programme.pdf LUKE CARSON Luke Carson graduated the Actors Centre Australia Journey program in 2009. Since graduating he has performed as Jerry in The Zoo Story directed by Netta Yashchin for the NIDA Directors Project. He was a Plant in Downstairs Belvoir production of Thom Pain directed by Sam Strong and starring Luke Mullins. Following this he acted in Stories from the 428 at Sidetrack Theatre (in April 2010 and for the Sydney Fringe Festival in September 2010). In 2010 Luke performed in several shows at New Theatre including Fatboy, Electronic City, Equus and Women, Power and Culture. He also had the pleasure to perform in Brand Spanking New in a play written by Kate Mulvany and directed by Augusta Supple. Recently Luke performed the role of Rick In The Shoe-Horn Sonata Directed by Ian Zammit for In Emu Heights Production 2011. Luke’s writing has featured in Cut&Paste#9 and Griffringe. He is currently a part of Write Here, Write Now, a writers collective. MATTHEW CHARLESTON A Tasmaniac who trained at NIDA, and more recently in LA, Matt is a 4th dan blackbelt in Aikido, and incorporates energetic principles into actor training. Currently playing leads in the Sci-fi feature Godschool, and the TV pilot Perdition, Matt has also appeared in many Australian TV shows. Recent theatre credits include: The return; W;T; Fatboy (also the fight director); Combat Fatigue; Stories from the 428; Chicom; The Devil’s Aftershave and I contain. Music theatre credits: Jump to it and Totally Amazing for Echelon productions. Matt is represented by Encompass.. PATRICK CONNOLLY Patrick graduated from the Actors College of Theatre and Televison (ACTT) in 2007. Recent theatre work includes Wildfire Theatre’s production of Macbeth and The Beauty Queen of Leenana, Conor McPherson’s St Nicholas for Big Eejit Productions, and Waiting for Godot, The Farmsworth Invention and The Weir for the New Theatre. Patrick is delighted to be doing his first production for Harlos. MARCELLO FABRIZI Marcello is a voice over artist and actor with theatre credits including As You Like It, Hamlet, Measure for Measure, The Merchant of Venice, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest, A Doll’s House, Sweet Phoebe, Carp Are Smart Fish and Luncheon of The Boating Party. Film and TV include Superman Returns, Home & Away, Curtin and Underbelly 2. Marcello wrote and performed in the play North for the 2009 Short + Sweet finals winning Best Comedy Script and Best Director. His voice over work includes multiple characters in the Emmy Award winning cartoon, I Got A Rocket, as well as many TV and radio campaigns. LOUISE FISCHER Louise Fischer has an MA in Theatre Studies from the University of NSW. Her directing credits include The Farnsworth Invention, Burnt by the Sun, The Crucible(which transferred to a sell-out season at the Seymour Centre), Honeymoon Suite, Richard III, Dancing at Lughnasa, Lemon Delicious and The Caucasian Chalk Circle(New Theatre), The God Botherers (Darlinghurst Theatre), Macbeth.com (Lighthouse Theatre), Project SciFi (PACT),Birthdays, Christmas & Other Family Disasters (Tunks Productions), Bedtime for Bastards (Crypt Theatre), Roadkill (Short & Sweet) and The Curious Pain of Louis XIV (Seymour Centre). Louise is also the Artistic Director of the New Theatre. GERTRAUD INGEBORG Gertraud Ingeborg has been working as a producer since 1982, when she founded Harlos Productions. She’s also a director and actress with many great roles to her credit, too numerous to list, including an appearance in Streetcar Named Desire (with Cate Blanchett, directed by Liv Ullmann, which toured Washington and New York). MADELEINE JONES Madeleine graduated from the full time course at Actors Centre Australia in 2009. Since then she has been involved in a variety of productions across stage and screen. Previous credits include: The Wind in the Willows (The Australian Shakespeare Company), I Contain Multitudes (Novemberism & 7-ON), Oh, The Humanity and other good intentions (pantsguys productions & Sydney Fringe), Poetry in Action - 2011 National Tour, Brand Spanking New (New Theatre), Equus (New Theatre), Redemption (Drama Queen Productions & TRS), Cabaret (New Theatre). Productions for ACA include: George Ogilvie's There'll Always Be An England, Dean Carey's Reality Bytes, The Winter's Tale & Uncle Vanya. OWEN LITTLE Owen Little graduated from Actors Centre Australia in 2010 and has since performed in a variety of roles across stage and screen. In 2011 he toured Australia with Poetry In Action. His theatre credits include: autobahn (pantsguys Productions), The Wind in the Willows (Australian Shakespeare Company), The Will (Abercrombie Street Theatre) Salome (NIDA), Rope (Bump In Productions) and Julius Caesar (New Theatre). JESSICA MARTIN Jessica is in her final year of Design for Live Production, Theatre and Events at the Enmore Design Centre. Previous Design credits include Set design The Weir New Theatre 2012, Set design Women Power and Culture New Theatre 2011. Assistant costume design Brook Andrews Traveling Colony (Sydney Festival 2012). Jess is also involved with Sport for Jove Theatre company where she stage managed their production of The Libertine at Darlinghurst Theatre 2011 and their 2011/12 Summer Shakespeare season. Jessica plans to further her studies in design and continue to create for theatre. DAVID RITCHIE Shakespeare: Hamlet (direction), King Lear (Lear), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Aegeus & Quince), Titus Andronicus (Titus), Othello (Iago). Voice Work: Recently Puyi, The Last Emperor of China, which he narrated, won the Gold Medal in Toronto for Best Documentary. He has worked for the ABC, BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, ZDF, NPR. Channel 4, & NHK, among others. David is the male voice in The Lyric Voice – the innovative & highly acclaimed 15 ep. programme, devised & produced by Phil Carrick, featuring literature from 1400 to yesterday, which was twice aired nationally on ABC Classic FM in 2008. Another series is planned this year by demand. SCARLETT RITCHIE Scarlett graduated from Theatre Nepean in 2004. She has worked with Harlos Productions, both on and off the stage for many years. Her most recent adventure with the company included taking a two-handed, 50-minute production of Hamlet to the students of Italy. She is excited to be back on board, lighting the way for this wonderful play.   GABRIELLE ROGERS Gabrielle first acted professionally at 15 and has been working in the drama scene ever since. Lots of television commercials, small TV roles, independent theatre and many short films have kept her busy whilst graduating from the University of Sydney, NIDA and Actors Centre Australia. She is the creator of Shakespeare Shorts and is one of Australia’s leading voice coaches. This is Gabrielle’s first production with Harlos Productions. JOHANN WALRAVEN Since graduating from NIDA in Acting in 2003 Johann has appeared as Vincent Van Gogh in Vincent in Brixton (Ensemble), Mother Church in The Rood Screen (Darlinghurst Theatre), Ethelred in Silence, and Jack in Checklist for an Armed Robber (Belvoir) Mike in Dinner and Boy in Summer (Griffin), Rot in Features of Blown Youth and Hamlet in Hamlet (New Theatre), Will and Donny in The Carnivores (TRS), Jaques in As You Like It (Shakespeare Centre), Adam in Alaska (ATYP), Roland in Behind These Lines (The Tunnel Project), Narrator in Angry Harriet (Drop Bear Theatre), amongst other things. Having played Hamlet in Harlos’ 2011 Sydney production, travelling with them to Europe in 2011 and 2012 to perform an abridged version in Italy, Johann is grateful for the ongoing collaboration with them, exploring the nature of Hamlet, and the nature of theatre, in this new incarnation.Other roles include TV performances in Fireflies, Home and Away, All Saints, Underbelly, Rescue Special Ops, Rake, the US feature film Stealth, and numerous short films, TVCs & music videos. HEATHER WHYTES Heather is 18 years of age and grew up in Orange (country Australia), She recently moved to Sydney to study live productions at ACTT and plans to attend NIDA next year.   TONY YOULDEN Tony’s involvement with the theatre spans over 50 years. Tony has worked as a freelance designer for most of Australia’s performing arts companies. He has lit over 400 theatre, opera, and ballet productions. He has just retired as Technical Director from NIDA where he worked for over 16 years. His association with Harlos Productions includes being Lighting Designer for Hamlet and many productions over the past 18 years. In addition Tony has acted as a theatre consultant advising on the re-development of the Capitol Theatre, the Broadwalk Studio at the Sydney Opera House, and the new NIDA Stage II complex, as well as many educational theatres.
