WRITER’S NOTE

During the eight years I lived at Kings Cross I observed the lives and dramas of the ‘streeties’ of the Cross. ‘Belle of the Cross’ is dedicated to this remarkable breed of people. The camaraderie, kindness, generosity, humour, heroism and tragedy, I witnessed , is without precedent. The character of Belle is not modelled on any particular person; she is a composite character. Creating a piece of writing is a solitary activity, so collaborating with David Ritchie and Gertraud Ingeborg has been a wonderful experience.
